Child's Death At Niloufer Hospital Causes Furore

Hyderabad | 2nd March 2022
The death of a child at the city-based Niloufer Government Children's Hospital caused a furore today.

The child was born in July 2021 and had weighed only 1 kg at the time of its birth. She was brought to the hospital from Nagarkurnool district on February 28, and died at 6 am in the hospital today.

The parents alleged that the child had died due to the administration of an injection by a nurse of the hospital, and staged a protest.

Responding to the protest, the doctors of the hospital said the parents of the child were levelling baseless allegations against them as they were in shock after the death of their child.

The Superintendent of the hospital Dr Murali Krishna said that most children with low weight at birth would not witness normal development of their organs, and that 50% of underweight children died after birth. He said that the hospital had also kept the child on oxygen support ever since she was admitted to the hospital.
