On Tuesday, Raj Bhavan was thronged by children of various schools who had visited to greet Governor E S L Narasimhan and First Lady Vimala Narasimhan on the occasion of Children's Day (the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru).
As many as 400 school children, drawn from 30 schools in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy and Yadadri Bhongir districts, gathered at the Governor's official residence. Narasimhan and his wife enthusiastically mingled and interacted with the tiny tots.
For the occasion, the Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University arranged a photo exhibition on the Raj Bhavan premises. The children went around the exhibition seeing the various special seed varieties, soil types and nutrients, and natural color preparations of the state, and were exposed to the steps being taken for crop protection. The food pyramid displayed in the horticulture exhibition stood out as a special attraction.
A 25-member contingent belonging to the Jain Group of Institutions (JGI), which created a world record recently for being the largest school contingent to scale the Mt Everest Base Camp, received special appreciation from the Governor. He also complimented Jaahnavi Sriperambuduru, the youngest mountaineer and guide of India, for her successful trekking expedition to the Mt Everest Base Camp in October this year under the guidance and the supervision of her father Dr Krishna Rao.
