The Congress Legislature Party on Saturday demanded that Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu resign from the post of Opposition Leader in the wake of the CBI having launched a probe into his alleged illegal properties.
Talking to media persons at the CLP office, Congress MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy asked Naidu to quit the Opposition Leader's post to facilitate an impartial probe by the CBI into his assets.
The probing agency cannot conduct an impartial and transparent probe if he continues in the post, he opined.
He also advised Naidu to cooperate with the CBI and other agencies instead of trying to appeal for a stay on the probe.
Ramana Reddy also accused Naidu of trying to project himself as the champion of farmers in New Delhi, merely to escape the CBI probe. He said that Naidu never held serious discussions on farmers' issues, and that instead, aimed his trip at finding ways to avoid the CBI probe.
Congress MLA Krishna Reddy objected to the call given by Telangana Political JAC chairman M Kodandaram to Telangana Congress MLAs to not participate in the Rachabanda program.
He said that it was wrong on the part of Kodandaram to prevent the elected representatives from addressing the problems being faced by people.
Krishna Reddy alleged that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao was demanding a Telangana state only in order to protect his party in the region. He predicted that the TRS would merge into Congress party, whether or not a Telangana is formed.
MLC Rudraraju Padma Raju was also present at the press conference. (INN)
