Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday, called on Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, and apprised him of the travails of the farmers of the Krishna Delta and other regions in the wake of AP's deficient rainfall.
Talking to reporters later, Naidu alleged that the state government had not sent any report to the Centre about the damages and losses caused due to the deficient rainfall in AP.
He said that the Agriculture minister had assured him of providing assistance to farmers after he receives a report from the state.
Accusing Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of having failed to control the administration, Naidu said that farmers were suffering due to the irresponsible behaviour of the state government.
Naidu said that lakhs of farmers were not getting water for irrigation due to the non-receipt of proper inflows into the reservoirs.
"However, the state government has failed to realise the gravity of the situation, and did not seek any help from the Centre," he complained.
He said other states would have received a lot of financial assistance from the Centre had they faced a similar situation.
The TDP president also urged the Agriculture minister to take immediate measures to overcome the shortage of fodder, seeds and fertilizers in Andhra Pradesh.
He also demanded stern action against indiscriminate hoarding by black-marketers.
Naidu also claimed that Sharad Pawar has also extended support to the TDP's move to provide political reservation for members of the Backward Classes. (INN)
