TDP Cadre To Block Highways

Telugu Desam Party leaders have decided to block state and national highways to protest against government's adamant stand on farmers' woes.
Hyderabad | 22nd December 2010
Taking a serious note on the state government's adamant attitude in addressing the farmers' woes, the all-party meeting convened by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at NTR Trust Bhavan on Wednesday called upon party cadre to lay siege on the national and state highways on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference after emerging out of the all-party meeting, senior TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that the attendees took serious note on the deteriorating health of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu who was observing hunger fast pressing for farmers' problems since last Friday.

Janardhan Reddy said that the all-party meeting decided to lay siege on all national and state highways on Thursday protesting the state government's stubborn attitude over the farmers' woes.

He said that the state government should be held responsible for serious consequences if anything happened to Naidu, and criticized the both the centre and the state governments for adopting anti-farmers policies.

Janardhan Reddy said that the Opposition leader launched the agitation for the cause of farmers, and there was no hidden agenda behind it. He called upon the party cadre to block all highways until the government did justice to the genuine demands of farmers.

TDP senior leader Devender Goud, CPI state General Secretary K Narayana, Lok Satta Party President Jayaprakash Narayanan and others participating in the all-party meeting, expressed their solidarity with Naidu's agitation.
