The Congress candidate from the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency was allegedly attacked with lathis and stones, leading to his losing consciousness.
Hyderabad | 7th December 2018
BJP leaders and workers of the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency today allegedly attacked Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy, the Congress candidate from the constituency, grievously.
Following the attack, Reddy reportedly lost consciousness, and was rushed to the NIMS in Hyderabad.
The incident reportedly took place in Jangareddy Palli under Amangal mandal of the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency.
Defending their action, the BJP leaders alleged that the attack took place when Reddy came to the polling station and appealed to the voters to vote for him. The charge was denied by the Congress.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy condemned the attack on Vamshi Chand Reddy, and alleged that the attacks were orchestrated by the TRS and the BJP as they were scared of facing a humiliating defeat in the elections (to the Telangana Assembly being held today). He urged the Election Commission to book cases against those who had attacked Vamshi Chand Reddy.
A team of Praja Kutami leaders filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar against the BJP workers for the attack, and urged the EC to take immediate action so that such incidents could be prevented in the future.
They also complained that last night the Congress candidate from the Tandur Assembly constituency P Rohit Reddy was attacked by TRS workers led by Tandur TRS president Abdul Rawoof, and that All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Madhu Yashki Goud was attacked by TRS workers in Metpally and his car damaged. They also claimed that the BJP candidate T Achary and his followers were luring and threatening the voters standing in queues.
They demanded prompt action against both the BJP and TRS leaders in their complaint. Later, speaking to media persons, they claimed that the BJP leaders and workers had injured Reddy with lathis and stones, and that he was shifted to the NIMS.
Separately, clashes were also reported in the Kodangal Assembly constituency from where TPCC Working President A Revanth Reddy is contesting.
