Congress leaders from the Seemandhra region on Saturday expressed confidence that the Centre would reverse its decision on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The Seemandhra leaders, who met at Club House at Ministers Quarters, have also decided to convince the A K Antony Committee to visit the Seemandhra region to interact with those participating in the Samaikyandhra agitation. As many as six Union ministers (Pallam Raju, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, K Chiranjeevi, D Purandeshwari, J D Seelam and K Suryaprakash Reddy) MPs K V P Ramchandra Rao, Lagadapati Rajgopal, S P Y Reddy, Sai Pratap, K Bapi Raju, V Arun Kumar, Anant Venkat Ram Reddy and Bosa Jhansi, Primary Education minister and Seemandhra legislators Forum convener S Sailajanath participated in the meeting.
Besides union ministers Kishore Chandra Dev, Panabaka Laxmi and Killi Krupa Rani, other Congress MPs did not attend the meeting.
Talking to reporters later, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said that the Seemandhra leaders would make another representation to the Antony Committee to press for the demand of a united Andhra Pradesh.
He said that while the leaders want to maintain discipline in the party, they have been forced to honour the sentiments of the people. Therefore, they are bound to oppose the Congress Working Committee's decision, he said. (INN)
