Union Textiles Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, on Saturday, claimed that 9 union ministers from the Seemandhra region have opposed the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, Kavuri said that the union ministers have not softened their stand on the state's bifurcation, and emphasized that they would continue to oppose the decision.
He said that the division of Andhra Pradesh would serve the interests of only a few political leaders, while the people of all three regions would suffer afterwards. He said that the division would complicate things in both the resulting states.
Kavuri said that 9 union ministers conveyed their opinion to the Congress High Command before and after the decision of the Congress Working Committee was announced. Further, he said that a detailed representation on the implications of bifurcation would also be made to the A K Antony Committee.
He said that the bifurcation would reduce the prominence of Andhra Pradesh, but maintained that he would abide by the final decision of the Congress High Command.
The union minister stated that people from Andhra and Rayalaseema sold their properties elsewhere to settle down in Hyderabad, and added that the city has been witnessing its overall development thanks to their investments. "However, now the same people are hurt after being told that Hyderabad does not belong to them anymore," he said. (INN)
