Centre Approves Telangana Irrigation Projects Loan
The Centre today approved the Telangana government's request for loans for irrigation projects, and invited the State irrigation minister to sign the deal.
In a swift response to the Telangana government's plea seeking loans for the completion of the State's irrigation projects, the Union government today invited Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao to sign the deal for a loan from the National Bank For Agriculture And Rural Development (NABARD).
Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti addressed a letter to Rao inviting him to the national capital for the signing of the loan documents on September 6.
The Centre will lend Rs. 2,500 crores under the deal, fulfilling the Telangana government's request. With this, some of the long-pending projects in the State will be revived soon.
For those who came in late, the State government had earlier sought the release of two loans of Rs. 2,500 crores and Rs. 4,500 crores, from NABARD. Later, the NDA-led government selected 99 pending irrigation projects from across the nation, including eleven projects from Telangana, for special funding, and agreed to channel the funds sought by Telangana as funding for these eleven projects.
