Hyderabad | 8th November 2016
Keeping TRS' manifesto promise alive, the Telangana government today released an amount of Rs. 2019.19 crores towards the third installment of loans waivers under the Crop Loan Waiver Scheme.
After assuming office, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao promised to waive off loans of the farmers in four installments. As promised, the TRS government, through an order issued by the Agriculture department, accorded the administrative sanction to complete the third installment. With this, the government released a total of Rs. 12,375.18 crores so far.
For those who came in late, the State government had earlier promised to release annually an amount of Rs. 4,250 crores for four years to clear the total loan arrears of farmers. On September 2014, the government released the first installment of Rs. 4,250 crores, and the second installment was released in two successive stages. The third installment, too, was divided into two stages. It released Rs 2019.9 crore in the first stage, and today the in the second stage, released another 2019.19 crores. The State government was considering to release the last and final installment of Rs. 4,250 crores at one go, next year.
This might put an end to the tirade against the TRS government from the Opposition, which alleged that the former had failed to release crop loan waiver as promised in the TRS manifesto.
In a release, Planning Commission Vice-President S Niranjan Reddy thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for releasing the crop loan waiver.
