Senior Congress leader and former minister T Jeevan Reddy has signalled his imminent exit from the party, despite last-minute reconciliation efforts by the leadership.
As per reports, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud personally visited Jeevan Reddy's residence in Jagtial, accompanied by AICC secretary Sachin Sawant and Government Whip Aadi Srinivas, in a bid to pacify the veteran leader. However, the attempt appeared unsuccessful.
Reddy has been deeply upset over the induction of Jagtial BRS MLA Sanjay Kumar into the Congress, calling it humiliating and unacceptable. Earlier efforts by ministers Sridhar Babu and Adluri Laxman, and MLA Medipally Satyam, also failed to convince him.
Goud acknowledged the leader's anguish, and said that certain political decisions by the party had caused distress, but expressed hope that the party would eventually do justice to his experience.
Moments after the TPCC chief left, Reddy made a sensational declaration that it would be his "final day in the Congress", confirming that his scheduled meeting on March 25 would proceed, as he intended to resign from the Congress.
In a symbolic move, his supporters removed the "Indira Bhavan" signage from his residence - once a hub of Congress activities - signalling a definitive break from the party.
