The heavy rains lashing Telangana during the last one week continue to take their toll of both personal property and infrastructure.
The combined Warangal district has registered record rainfall, and many areas have been submerged in flood waters and people have been facing severe difficulties.
In the latest rain-related incident, the Bhadrakali tank in Warangal was flooded on Saturday morning.
The pond on the Pothananagar side leaked due to the severity of the floods. As a result, the water in the pond is flowing downstream. And residents of the Pothananagar and Saraswathi Nagar colonies are in a state of panic due to the same.
Despite the rains reducing, flood waters have been flowing into the Bhadrakali tank in a big way from the upstream areas. This seems to have resulted in the fissure of the bund of the pond.
As soon as the information was received, the Warangal municipal commissioner rushed to the spot where the Bhadrakali tank was breached. He examined the pond bund leakage. He then alerted the people in the low-lying areas and asked them to shift to safer places.
The Municipal DRF teams and the police led by ACP Kishan reached the spot and carried out rescue operations, shifting the people of Pothananagar, Saraswathi Nagar and Kapuwada to rehabilitation centres.
Efforts are also being made to bury the bund leakage with sand bags.
