YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy sought an exemption from attending the CBI special court, hearing the cases of economic offences and disproportionate assets against him, every Friday.
Jagan has been attending the court every Friday in relation to the cases against him, but is planning to go on a padayatra of about 2,000 km across Andhra Pradesh for about six months, and therefore sought the exemption from personal appearance.
The CBI however filed a counter opposing the plea. It said that exemptions from personal appearances could not be sought for political reasons.
It also stated that Jagan had gone ahead with finalizing the schedule for his padayatra without even consulting the court, which amounted to disrespect to the court. It also said that even the High Court did not rule out the possibility of the padayatra being misused.
The court adjourned hearing on the trial to next Friday (October 20).
