Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced today that a caste census would be taken up in Telangana soon.
He directed the officials concerned to take the necessary steps for the exercise.
Speaking at a review meeting with the BC, minority and tribal welfare departments at the Secretariat, the CM said that his government was committed to taking up the caste census as per the promise given to the people before the Assembly elections.
He also addressed other issues concerning the departments. Referring to one of them, he asked officials to implement the Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Overseas Scholarship scheme more effectively.
"With effective implementation of the overseas scholarship scheme, more deserving students will be able to benefit. Based on the rankings of universities abroad, top universities should be identified and a framework should be prepared. Students who are going to study in these universities should be advised to give first priority to availing themselves of the benefits of the scheme," Reddy told the officials.
The Chief Minister also said that all educational institutions for SC, ST and BC welfare, and Gurukuls, should be set up as an integrated education hub instead of being operated as different entities at different places. Proposals should be prepared to build an integrated hub for each Assembly constituency, he said, and asked the officials to identify suitable places for the construction of such education hubs in all the Assembly constituencies. "If it is not possible to construct an integrated education hub at the constituency level, land should be identified at another town or mandal centre in the same segment as an alternative," he said.
