In connection with the by-election for the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency seat in Suryapet district, the Returning Officer on Thursday received two sets of nominations from Congress candidate Nalamada Padmavathi Reddy, two sets of nomination papers from independent candidate Mekala Raghuma Reddy and one set of nomination papers from Gajabinkar Bansila.
Padmavathi Reddy (Congress), wife of TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, went to the Tahsildar office in a procession and filed her nomination papers, and was followed by the two independents.
Meanwhile, the election campaigning has gained momentum in the constituency with the Congress and ruling TRS leaders flexing their muscles to clinch the seat. Neither of the parties is sparing any effort to woo the electors, and both are exuding confidence that they will win the seat.
TRS candidate Saidi Reddy, who missed the seat last time by a 7,000-vote margin, is working harder and is more optimistic this time. Padmavathi Reddy, of course, has the full support of the Telangana Congress, given who her husband is.
The BJP's candidate is Keesara Srikala Reddy, who is not very popular in the region - but people are more likely to be the voting for the party than for the candidate in the BJP's case.
