BRS working president K T Rama Rao today condemned the Congress' efforts to remove Charminar and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam from the State emblem.
KTR along with senior party leaders visited the Charminar and addressed the media, demanding that the Congress government not remove Charminar from the official emblem.
"Hyderabad is the spirit of Telangana, and Charminar is the symbol of Hyderabad. Globally, Hyderabad is recognized by the symbol of Charminar. Remove Charminar and the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam from the State emblem is highly condemnable. It's a foolish and stubborn move, that also disregards the self-respect and emotions of the people of Telangana. The government is going ahead despite significant opposition from the people of Telangana and activists, which shows that it is acting only from political malaise," he said.
He also pointed out that when Hyderabad celebrated its 400th anniversary the then-Congress government grandly celebrated the occasion using Charminar as the logo for the entire celebrations, and ridiculed the current Congress leaders, especially Revanth Reddy who joined the party recently and became Chief Minister, for their lack of knowledge about their own party's history.
The BRS leader also questioned the sudden necessity and urgency to remove these symbols instead of focusing on the electoral promises that he said should be the current government's primary priority. He criticized these efforts as a diversion tactic to shift the people's attention away from the ongoing agricultural and administrative crises, and the corruption in the State.
KTR also said that Reddy's attempts to erase KCR and his initiatives from Telangana's history were utterly foolish, emphasizing that no one could erase the history of Telangana. He claimed that numerous sacrifices by and contributions from many people had happened under the leadership of KCR and the BRS, which led to the formation of Telangana. He alleged that the Congress government's vindictive attitude and foolish efforts had ruined the celebratory atmosphere of Telangana's formation, and accused the government of acting out of political malice and vengeance, ignoring the positive developments of the past ten years.
KTR warned that if the Congress government did not revoke its decision, the BRS would launch protests across Telangana.
