A delegation of the BRS led by former minister Harish Rao today submitted a detailed report on the Kancha Gachibowli land to the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) at Hotel Taj Krishna in Hyderabad, and formally appealed to the committee to take strict action against the ongoing violations in the land.
The report mentions the large-scale environmental destruction, illegal deforestation and multiple statutory violations allegedly committed by the Telangana government in the ecologically sensitive area.
The concerns raised in the report were based on inputs from students of the University of Hyderabad, environmentalists and nature activists, the delegation said.
Rao, accompanied by senior party leaders, addressed a press conference later at Telangana Bhavan, speaking about the report and condemning the State government's actions.
He said that the BRS delegation had submitted an 11-page representation along with approximately 200 pages of documentary evidence.
"The Revanth Reddy government is bulldozing forested land during festivals like Ugadi and Ramzan, and even on Sundays, just to avoid public attention," he said.
"Thousands of trees have been felled in violation of every rule in the book. Not a single application was filed with the forest department, nor was any permission obtained under the WALTA Act. Tree-cutting requires permission even on private lands, but in this forest-like terrain, no such procedures were followed," he added.
