The BRS received a shock today with its MP P Ramulu, who represents the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency, quitting the BRS and joining the BJP.
Ramulu wore a saffron scarf in the presence of Union minister G Kishan Reddy, BJP's Telangana State affairs in-charge Tarun Chugh, Rajya Sabha MP Laxman and BJP national vice-president D K Aruna.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramulu said the BJP was emerging as a formidable force in Telangana and that the BRS' boat was sinking. He also said that the Congress had benefited due to the changes in Telangana.
"But we are seeing the situation of the Congress in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. The BJP is also gaining strength in Telangana. Many people are interested in joining the party," he said.
"The BJP has won multiple Lok Sabha seats in the State in the past. We will win all the 17 MP seats in Telangana. The BJP is ahead of all parties in the campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be on a two-day visit to Telangana," he added.
Commenting on the selection of the party's MP candidates, he said that it would be completed almost fully before the schedule arrived.
It is being reported learnt that the differences between former Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju and Ramulu had intensified, and that Ramulu left the BRS as Balaraju was campaigning that he was the MP candidate of the party.
