A Class VII student named Mahesh committed suicide in Kavadiguda by hanging himself due to alleged harassment by his school management.
The heart-broken parents and relatives of Mahesh staged a dharna in front of the Little Flower High School, where Mahesh was studying. They alleged that Mahesh took to the extreme step due to harassment by the school management, and demanded that the police register an abetment case and get the school management punished.
Members of the parents' association of the school also participated in the dharna alleging that excesses by private schools were rising in Telangana. They alleged that the students were suffering silently and skipping classes due to the harassment of the school managements, which were putting pressure on the children for payments of fees. When the parents were asking the students why they were not going to school, some children were even resorting to suicides, they alleged.
They said that the condition of the girl students was especially pathetic due to poor infrastructure in most schools.
The members lamented that the authorities of the education department and the police were not initiating action against the erring school managements even though atrocities were being committed against students, and that the police, instead of helping the victims, were supporting the school managements for their monthly mamools. They warned that they would intensify their agitation if the government failed to check the excesses of the private school managements in Hyderabad.
