Kukatpally MLA M Krishna Rao said that the government had suspended the Kukatpally MEO in the
New Century Public School shed collapse incident.
He also revealed that two persons of the school were in the custody of the police and were being interrogated. A case had also been filed against the school management, and three police teams were searching for the management members, who were at large after the incident, he said.
Rao also said that the government would extend Rs. 5 lakhs in ex-gratia to the families of each of the students who died in the mishap. The government was also bearing the expenditure of the students undergoing treatment in hospitals, he said.
The government would also secure admission for the 170 students pursuing their education in the school in another school to ensure that their academic year would not be lost, Rao added.
District Education Officer (DEO) Vijaya Kumari too said that the department would initiate steps to see that the students did not lose an academic year, by ensuring that they joined another school. She said that the department would work out the fee issues with the management of the school chosen for the transfer, and promised that the fee burden would not fall on the parents.
Meanwhile, the GHMC decided to demolish the unfinished constructions in New Century Public School.
Many student unions also attacked the school today. They barged into the school premises and destroyed the furniture. They also destroyed the school bus. On gettiong to know of this, the police reached the spot and obstructed the attackers.
