Causing relief to Transport minister Botsa Satyanarayana, the High Court, on Friday, quashed a petition filed by a social activist E Giri Yadav, who sought a probe against Botsa for his alleged involvement in the liquor syndicate.
While issuing these orders, the court observed that it has not found any proof or evidence against Botsa Satyanarayana to suspect his involvement in the liquor syndicate. The court, while dismissing the petition, imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on Giri Yadav for wasting the court's time by filing a "baseless" petition.
It may be recalled that Giri Yadav had filed a writ petition in the High Court, seeking its directions to ensure that Botsa does not continue in office for his alleged involvement in liquor syndicate issue.
The petitioner also valued the liquor scam at Rs. 15,000 crore, and said that the minister was involved in it.
He said that no further proof or evidence was required to show that Botsa was guilty, as he had admitted that his family was into the liquor business, and that it currently has 31 shops in Vizianagaram district. (INN)
