BJP Slams TRS For "Cheap Politics" On CAA, NRC
Pointing out that KCR had provided 12% reservation to Muslims, the BJP asked whether providing religion-based reservations to Muslims was not communal.
Hyderabad | 20th December 2019
Strongly condemning the comments of TRS leaders against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA), Greater Hyderabad BJP president and MLC N Ramchander Rao today said that unable to explain the reasons for opposing the CAA, the TRS leaders were resorting to cheap politics by branding the BJP as a communal party.
Pointing out that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had provided 12% reservation to Muslims in Telangana, the BJP leader asked KCR whether he was not communal for providing religion-based reservations to Muslims.
Rao alleged that the TRS was afraid of the MIM as it (the TRS) had a nexus with its president Asaduddin Owaisi, and that that was driving its stand on the CAA.
The ruling party leaders were afraid of losing the Muslim vote if they extended support to the CAA and NRC openly, he said.
Pooh-poohing comments of TRS leaders about humanity in the party, the BJP leader asked where the humanity was when 30 RTC employees committed suicides during their strike and 26 students lost their lives due to irregularities in the intermediate exam results.
Asserting that the CAA was not a threat to the citizenship of any Indians and had nothing to do with Indian citizens at all, Rao alleged that the Congress and its allies had been spreading false information for their political gain without studying the new law, and were trying to provoke a particular community. The law was meant to provide citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains and Parsis, minorities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who faced persecution and were living in India as refugees, he said.
Rao appealed to the people not to believe the rumours being spread by the Congress and other Opposition parties on CAA and NRC, and to extend their support to the new law.
Former MLC Mohan Reddy, State party official spokesperson N V Subhash and media in-charge Sudhakar Sharma were also present.
