Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday demanded that the state government give the nod for a Joint Legislative Committee (JLC) probe into the alleged allotment of land to Special Economic Zones (SEZs), industrialists and entrepreneurs.
Dattareya told media persons at the party's Barkatpura office that the government should order a JLC probe into the allotment of lands from 2004 to 2009. He also displayed a letter he had written to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy demanding the JLC probe.
He said that the probe should cover the period of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's rule, since there are allegations that there were dubious deals during his tenure.
The senior BJP leader alleged that some vested elements and influential persons benefitted from the secret land dealings, causing enormous loss to the state exchequer.
"The JLC probe into the murky issue will shed light on the truth. After the probe, the guilty should be brought to book," he demanded.
"The names of the beneficiaries who had been allotted prime lands after they promised to establish their industries and provide jobs to local people should be revealed," the BJP leader demanded.
He said that the government had acquired thousands of acres of fertile lands from farmers citing the setting up of SEZs and industries. "However, it (the government) has failed to ensure that these prime lands were allotted to genuine entrepreneurs," he stated.
