The loyalty and long wait of veteran BJP leader and former Union minister of state Bandaru Dattatreya finally paid off when he was appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.
President Ramnath Kovind issued orders appointing Dattatreya as the Governor of the hill State.
Dattatreya succeeds Kalraj Mishra. Mishra was transferred as Governor of Rajasthan.
Dattatreya, the Secunderabad MP from 2014 to 2019, was dropped as Union minister of state for labour and employment in September 2017. Given he was a BC leader and also the lone minister in the Union cabinet from Telangana, it led to some heartburn in the State. He was also not given a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections of 2019. Given the BJP is now serious about capturing power in Telangana in 2023, this posting for Dattatreya is seen as making amends.
For the 72-year-old veteran leader, this seems to be the perfect sinecure at the end of a long political career.
