The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday, promised the electorate that it would grant statehood to the Telangana region within 100 days of its coming to power at the Centre in the 2014 elections.
Addressing a by-election rally in Bollekonda village (Sangem mandal) of the Parkal constituency, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy said that it would require 270 votes in the Lok Sabha to pass the Telangana Bill, and that he hoped that the BJP would win almost 270 seats in the 2014 elections.
He said that the BJP alone could bring statehood for the region, and that regional parties with one or two MPs can never realise the Telangana dream. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the BJP at all levels, he emphasized.
Appealing to voters to vote for BJP candidate Dr. P Vijaychander Reddy, the BJP state president said that pro-Telangana votes would be wasted if they were not cast in favour of the BJP.
He accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi of cheating the people of the region for the last 11 years. He alleged that the TRS was focused on increasing its vote bank and its number of seats, and that it had always resorted to resignation politics.
He said that people must reject the TRS in the ensuing by-elections in Parkal, and ensure the victory of the BJP candidate.
Kishan Reddy said that the Congress would never form a Telangana state, and that it would continue to betray the people of the region. He also accused the ruling party of burdening the people by increasing the prices of petrol and other essential commodities frequently. (INN)
