BJP Leader Vanam Jhansi Rani Killed
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Mahila Morcha president Vanam Jhansi Rani was killed in a road mishap in Mahabubnagar district, on Saturday.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Mahila Morcha president Vanam Jhansi Rani was killed in a road mishap which occurred near Kadthal village under Amangal mandal in Mahabubnagar district, on Saturday.
According to Amangal Sub-Inspector G Venkat, Jhansi Rani was on her way to Hyderabad from Achampet at around 8:30am when the car in which she was travelling collided head-on with a Toyota Innova (AP 9J 2557) coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the accident left Rani with serious injuries to her head. One of her co-passengers was also left seriously injured, while another of the car's occupants received minor injuries.
Following the accident, Rani was rushed to the DRDL Apollo Hospital at Malakpet where she succumbed to the injuries, the police added.
Sub-Inspector Venkat said that car driver Srikanth and party activist Ballu were the other occupants of the car. They are currently being treated for their injuries at Apollo Hospital.
Jhansi Rani was an active and vociferous member of the BJP, rising up from the ABVP ranks to reach the post of party Mahila Morcha president. She was an active participant of the party's Political JAC Steering Committee formed to give impetus to the separate Telangana agitation.
Her body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem and then from there to the party headquarters at Nampally for party workers to pay their last respects. According to BJP sources, her last rites will be performed at Achampet later on Saturday evening.
Many BJP leaders expressed shock at the death of their party leader. Senior leaders like M Venkaiah Naidu, G Kishen Reddy, Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Indrasena Reddy, Baddam Bal Reddy and Bandaru Dattatreya described her death as "shocking" and "an irreparable loss".
Rani was 42, and leaves behind two sons.
The Amangal police said that a case has been registered against the Innova car driver Madhusudhan for rash and negligent driving. Further investigations are on, he said.
