The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and other authorities take measures to curb illegal slaughtering of cows in the GHMC limits.
A BJP delegation comprising BJP GHMC floor leader Bangari Prakash and corporators K Sahadev Yadav (Kurmaguda), Mettu Vaikuntam (Goshamahal) and Ale Jeethendra (Gowlipura) called on GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Wednesday and demanded immediate action in this regard.
They informed that recently a truck/container carrying a full load of livestock / cows accidentally overturned near Ramoji Film City. As a result, 20 cows died on the spot, and another 25 animals were badly injured.
They alleged that this happened due to non-presence of check posts in all the corners of the GHMC.
"Cows are worshipped by Hindus, and they are being illegally slaughtered in the GHMC limits hurting the sentiments of the religion's followers. Slaughtering of cows has been prohibited as per the provisions of the AP Prohibition of Cow Slaughter & Animal Preservation Act, 1977. But the provisions are being breached every year, on the occasion of Bakrid," they alleged.
The BJP corporators demanded that police, RTA and GHMC authorities operate check posts on all the corners of the GHMC suburbs to ensure that not even a single cow was smuggled into the GHMC limits for the purpose of illegal slaughtering.
Further, regular surprise checks should also be made on all the slaughter houses so as to minimize illegal slaughter in the GHMC limits, they demanded. (INN)
