The BJP and the BRS decided not to attend the all-party meeting convened by CM Revanth Reddy today.
On behalf of the BJP, Union minister G Kishan Reddy wrote an open letter to the Deputy CM of the State Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who personally invited him for the meeting, that he was not attending it.
"Thank you for your invitation. As you are aware, a minimum amount of time is required for a meaningful discussion on key issues in such meetings of importance. But all the BJP MPs received this information late on Friday night. Today is International Women's Day and all our MPs have to participate in pre-decided programmes in their respective constituencies. In addition, we are unable to attend the meeting due to pre-decided official and informal programmes. We hope that if you want to hold such meetings sometime in the future, we will need to be informed a little earlier. In this context, we once again make it clear that the BJP and the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are committed to the development of Telangana (sic)," he said in his letter.
The BRS MPs also skipped the all-party meeting. While the BRS has no Lok Sabha MPs, it has four of them in the Rajya Sabha - B Parthasaradhi Reddy, Damodar Rao, Kethireddy Suresh Reddy and Vaddiraju Ravichandra. Though they were also invited, the party chief and former CM K Chandrashekar Rao seemed to have asked them to skip the meeting.
