The BJP floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly Dr K Lakshman on Saturday requested Governor E S L Narasimhan to direct the government to convene the Assembly session to address the problems of the people.
"The state of Telangana has been facing serious problems which warrant the immediate intervention of the government. Issues like the power crisis, the farmers' loan waiver, fee reimbursement for SC/ST/BC/EBC and minority students, viral fevers, the agitation of the unemployed youth etc. need to be discussed immediately. In our day-to-day interaction with the people and in our tour to the districts, we have been receiving several representations from the people expressing their woes," Dr Laxman said in a memorandum submitted to the Governor.
The BJP leader said that in a democratic polity, it was the responsibility of the legislature to address these issues and find solutions. However, the Telangana government was being nonchalant not only about addressing the issues, but even about convening the Assembly, a task that was its constitutional responsibility.
"The validity of the Vote On Account which is an interim arrangement will be over by the end of this month. Therefore, it is mandatory for the legislature to take appropriate measures to ensure legitimacy for the expenditure of the government, which includes the salaries of the employees and other welfare schemes," he said.
"Since the Telangana Government is not showing any interest in convening the Assembly despite a series of appeals, the BJLP requests your intervention as the custodian of the Constitution to direct the government to convene the Assembly immediately to address the problems of the people," Lakshman requested the Governor.
