Get Rationed Goods Through Fingerprints
The goverment has introduced biometric devices, through which ration card holders will now have to authenticate themselves via fingerprints before receiving subsidised goods.
The widespread adulteration and fraud in the "business" of subsidy has caused the state government to come up with a new way of dispensing goods to worthy ration card holders.
The goverment has introduced biometric devices, through which ration card holders will now have to authenticate themselves via fingerprints before receiving subsidised goods.
This is in reaction to the discovery of widespread corruption in this department, wherein it has been discovered that ration shop dealers have been selling goods in bulk to kirana stores, who have then been selling the subsidised goods at market rates. Meanwhile, the needy are being told that the goods haven't come in, or that they are over.
Also, several people have reportedly been buying and stocking up on rationed goods using fake ration cards. According to reports, there are far more ration cards than people eligible for them. Government officials are hoping that this new method of authentication will weed out those who don't are using their cards fraudulently.
As a "test run", these devices will be distributed in 100 public distribution shops (ration shops) each in 10 districts including Visakhapatnam, Krishna, East Godavari, Chittoor, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy and others.
