Hyderabad | 19th September 2025
The Jubilee Hills police today arrested seven people for fraudulently misappropriating Rs 8.71 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) by posing as fake beneficiaries.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Potla Ravi (46), Janagama Nagaraju (40), Mateti Bhasker (33), Dharmaram Raju (50), Kampalli Santhosh (35), Chityala Laxmi (65) and Asampelli Laxmi. Police said that they were all natives of Godavarikhani village in Karimnagar district.

The accused allegedly deposited sanctioned cheques into their personal accounts and withdrew the funds, cheating the government and depriving genuine victims of financial assistance. Cases have been registered against them under Sections 409, 417, 419, 467 and 120(B) of the IPC, and Section 66(C) of the IT Act, and all seven were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.

Earlier, on July 15, four others were arrested in connection with the same case. Investigations revealed that undistributed CMRF cheques were misused using forged identities, and efforts are underway to recover the misappropriated funds and arrest the absconding accused.
