Thousands of people from India and abroad converged at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on Tuesday to gulp a live murrel fish stuffed with a miracle medicine prepared by the Bathini family members.
The 'fish medicine,' or 'prasadam' as it is now being called, is considered a cure for asthma. Tuesday's process of administration of the medicine began with the Bathini family members performing a puja, and the administering of the medicine started at 5 pm.
This year, Bathini brothers Vishwanath Goud, Harinath Goud and Uma Maheshwar Goud; and their family members; are administering the fish medicine.
The process will end 24 hours after it started, at 5pm on Wednesday.
The authorities have set up 32 counters for the general public and 4 special counters for women, while a special counter for VIPs has also been set up.
Over 50,000 live murrel fish are being supplied by the Fisheries department.
According to the Bathinis, the recipe for the fish medicine was given to their ancestor Shivram Goud by a sage over 160 years ago.
