Bardhan Supports Naidu

Communist Party of India leader A B Bardhan supported Chandrababu Naidu's fast for farmers, and warned of a 'state bandh' if measures were not taken.
Hyderabad | 18th December 2010
Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary A B Bardhan on Friday warned the state government that his party would call for 'state bandh' if the government failed to take any decision on relief package of farmers.

Bardhan was speaking to media persons after meeting Telugu Desam President N Chandrababu Naidu who was on an indefinite fast at New MLA Quarters pressing for better relief package for farmers, and expressing solidarity with him.

The veteran communist leader expressed confidence that all farmers' leaders would extend support to Naidu.

Bardhan warned the government that if it did not come out with a revised relief package within 4 days, the CPI would call for 'state bandh' and paralyse the administration. He said the farmers would come to streets and intensify their protest demanding better relief package for their colleagues in rain-affected districts.

CPI state General Secretary K Narayana said that the welfare of farmers was important for any government if it had to survive in the long run.

TDP leader Payyavula Kesav stated that his party would up the ante over the issue by launching protests across the districts from Saturday.

As part of these protests, the party would organize a massive Satyagraha on Sunday with 10 lakh people in the state capital. On Monday, the party would picket taluk headquarters across the state.

Keshav added that the Left parties had already extended their full support to the protests.

Meanwhile, thousands of activists and farmers from various districts were visiting New MLA Quarters to express solidarity with Naidu.

So the Govt of AP should come forward at the earliest with the decision on relief package of farmers.
