Taking a cue from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao today stated that by January 10, 2017, all bank accounts would be linked to Aadhaar cards through biometry, and would be provided to people in villages and towns.
The Minister directed the officials to take steps to open bank accounts for 4.5 lakh more pensioners who were yet to get them, and encourage them to use electronic transactions.
Addressing the media later, Rao said that the officials of his Ministry were instructed to take immediate measures to open bank accounts to all villagers and create awareness among them with the help of SHGs and NGOs.
Earlier, the Minister held a high-level review meeting with bankers, post offices, the cooperative wing and others. He also discussed giving Debit and RuPay cards to ensure that cashless transactions were made across the State without hassle.
Pensions and payment of wages for workers under the Employment Guarantee Scheme would be done through e-transactions using swipe machines, on a large scale. The government constituted a committee of officials to monitor and expedite the process of the mass opening of back accounts. Banking officials also have been urged to play a role in the drive.
