Telangana devotees and the Bhagyanagar Mahankali Utsava Ummadi Devalayala Jathara Committee offered a golden bonam this year to goddess Kanaka Durga at the temple atop the Indrakeeladri hill today.
The committee office-bearers reached Vijayawada under the aegis of committee president Gajula Anjaiah and organised the program with the cooperation of the temple officials.
Hundreds of devotees and artists proceeded towards the Durga temple in a procession after offering special poojas at Jammidoddi. On the way, they also conducted a Ganga Pooja at the Krishna river. Later, they reached the temple through the ghat road.
Interestingly, the committee offered the bangaru bonam praying goddess Durga to help Andhra Pradesh get Special Category Status. The committee had the bonam pot specially prepared with a gold coating.
Temple executive officer Padma also spoke. The Indrakeeladri area wore a festive look on the occasion.
