Deeravath Vinod, an auto driver residing in Venkatadri township, Uppal, was arrested by the Cyber Cell of Rachakonda for harassing a girl by creating a Whatsapp group and a Facebook profile with her picture and posting abusive comments.
The girl is a student of Women's College, Koti. She became friends with Deeravath Vinod, and the friendship eventually turned into love. Due to family issues, however, she soon started avoiding him. Following this, he started harassing her.
He started by creating a Whatsapp group and forwarding audio recordings of her saying that she loved him to that group. He also started blackmailing her by stating that if she didn't continue to love him he would upload her nude pictures to the social media. Later, he also called the girl's brother and spoke negatively about her character, and also started trying to sabotage her upcoming marriage proposals.
For fear of him, the girl started staying in the college hostel. Vinod however went to the hostel, too, and forcibly snatched her phone, copied her photos and edited them, and uploaded the edited pictures to Facebook without her permission. He also took her relatives' numbers from her phone and started calling them and defaming her.
Based on the clues and on credible information, Cyber Cell officials comprising P Saidulu, Inspector of Police, and his team apprehended the accused at his house. He accepted his guilt. It also turned out that he had previously been arrested in cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act 2012 in Wadapally of Nalgonda district.
