A tragic road accident on the outskirts of Shayampet mandal's Mandharipeta village, in Warangal district, today left at least 20 people gravely injured.
The road mishap occurred when a sand-laden lorry hit an RTC bus which was travelling towards Bhupalapally from Hanmakonda. The front portion of the bus was completely mangled due to the impact of the crash. Reports suggest that the lorry too was damaged.
While 20 passengers of the bus sustained serious injuries, ten others sustained minor ones. The injured persons were rushed to the Parkal Civil Hospital and the MGM Hospital for treatment. The driver of the bus, P Ravi, and the conductor, J Ravi Kumar, were also wounded.
Speaking on the incident, the local police said that the over-speeding of the lorry driver was the most likely cause of the collision.
Since the bus belonged to the Parkal depot, officials from the town visited the accident site and launched a probe into the incident. The police, meanwhile, have also launched an investigation of their own.
There has been a spate of such road mishaps in Telangana in the recent past. In March, a
grisly road accident that took place at the Neerukulla crossroad on National Highway 163 in Warangal's Atmakuru mandal resulted in the death of three women and left seven women severely injured.
