The police filed a petition seeking an arrest warrant under Section 73 of the CrPC. The court which took up the investigation issued orders allowing it.
So far four police officers have been arrested and remanded in the phone-tapping case. Based on the details given by them during the police custody, the investigation team found that Prabhakar Rao, who is alleged to be the main mastermind in the case, played a key role in the tapping.
As soon as the case was registered, Prabhakar Rao went abroad. The police have already issued lookout notices so that he can be caught wherever he lands in India.
The investigation team needs the court's permission before contacting the Red Corner and Interpol officials. It is in this context that the police took an arrest warrant under CrPC 73.
