An APSRTC Metro Express bus accidentally caught fire in the heart of city, at Lakdi-ka-pul, on Monday.
However, all the passengers of the bus, including its crew, escaped unhurt from the mishap.
According to sources, flames had suddenly engulfed the front portion of the bus after some sparks had emanated from the engine of the vehicle. The bus was on its way from Koti to Patancheru, when the mishap happened on Monday afternoon.
Some of the passengers sitting in the front seats noticed the flames behind the engine, and raised an alarm.
The panic-stricken passengers broke open the windows and made an emergency exit from the vehicle, sources added.
At the time of the incident, the bus had more than 40 passengers. Fire tenders were pressed to douse the flames. However, by the time the fire tenders came to the spot, the bus was partially damaged.
RTC officials stated that the reason behind the fire in the engine was yet to be ascertained. (INN)
