The state government has rejected the JAC's demand that the intermediate exam papers of Telangana students be evaluated by Telangana lecturers only, saying that there already were enough measures in place to ensure fair valuation.
The convenor of the Telangana JAC, Prof Kodandaram, along with Kavitha, daughter of TRS chief KCR, had made a representation to the Board Of Intermediate Education (BIE) asking for region-wise evaluation. The BIE had referred the matter to the state government.
Usually, the Board sends answer sheets of students in a particular district to spot valuation centers in others - a practice that the Telangana JAC argued against, saying that there was a possibility that the future of young students may be ruined if Andhra evaluators were to correct Telangana students' papers.
Manikya Vara Prasada Rao, the minister for secondary education, said the state's intermediate education has a good reputation nationally, and that if the system is altered for
"petty politics", it might do more harm than good. He also said systems were in place to protect students' identities.
