The state government has started taking measures to grow crops on barren lands.
In a written answer to a question raised by MLA J Ramesh, Rural Development Minister D Manikya Varaprasad Rao informed the House on Monday that work was being taken up for the development of fallow lands, under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes.'
Bush clearance, boulder removal, land leveling and slit application are all being done to make land fit for agriculture.
So far, 11,34,614 acres of fallow lands have been developed with an expenditure of Rs. 1007.79 crore during the year 2011-12, the minister said. (INN)
