Parkal YSR Congress candidate Konda Surekha attributed her defeat to cross-voting.
Talking to media persons after the announcement of the by-elections results on Friday, Konda Surekha said that she was a tough opponent to Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate M Bhikshapathi, and that she lost with a thin margin of votes.
"Although many people worked against me, my sincere efforts towards the people of the constituency yielded good results," she said.
Konda Surekha alleged that the TRS won the by-elections cheating the people of the constituency and promising that the Centre would make an announcement about Telangana within 3 months.
She said that TRS candidate M Bhikshapathi must resign from the post if the TRS fails to bring about Telangana within 3 months.
She said that the victory of YSRC candidate Bhuma Karunakar Reddy from the Tirupathi Assembly constituency proves that the party would have a strong grip over the state in the future.
She noted that even though Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Congress' in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress observer Vayalar Ravi, former Tirupati MLA and Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi, and Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu campaigned there, the YSRC registered a huge victory in Tirupati.
In the by-elections, Konda Surekha lost to M Bhikshapati with a margin of 1,562 votes. To the surprise of many, the TDP was in the third position, and the BJP was relegated to the 4th position. (INN)
