Despite two adjournments and multiple requests for the restoration of normalcy in the House, the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly could not initiate the debate on the State Reorganisation Bill, and was adjourned for the day without transacting any business on Tuesday.
YSR Congress Party legislators and TDP legislators from the Seemandhra region trooped into the well soon after the House met at 9am on Tuesday. They gave adjournment motions seeking a resolution in the House to keep the state united. However, Speaker Nadendla Manohar rejected the adjournment motion notices, and appealed to the members to resume their seats.
Following intense slogan-shouting by YSRCP and TDP Seemandhra MLAs in favour of a united AP, and by TRS and BJP in favour of a Telangana state, the Speaker adjourned the House after four minutes, for half-an-hour.
Similar scenes were witnessed when the House re-assembled at about 11:43am. In less than 4 minutes, it was again adjourned for half-an-hour.
Normalcy could not be restored when the Assembly met again at about 1:30pm. Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, who was on the chair, individually appealed to all floor leaders to make their party members resume their chairs and cooperate with running the House. However, the Seemandhra legislators continued the furore, forcing the Deputy Speaker, at about 1:34pm, to adjourn the House for the day till Wednesday. (INN)
