Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today asked the officials of the state's education department to reopen schools from August 16.
The CM took the decision at a high-level review meeting that was held in his camp office in Tadepally.
Explaining that the reopening had gotten delayed as a result of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, he announced that the detailed guidelines for the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) would also be released by the state government on August 16, and instructed the officials concerned to spread awareness about the "benefits" of the policy.
Jagan stated that his government would spend Rs 16,000 crore on the implementation of the NEP, claiming that the policy would "rejuvenate" the education system in the state.
The CM then talked about AP's Nadu-Nedu program, which is aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of the public schools in the state, and claimed that no other government had thought of developing educational facilities through such a comprehensive scheme.
He said that the works under the scheme were dedicated to the welfare of the people of the state.
"Our government has been striving to prioritise the development of all the public schools in the state. We will soon take up the second phase of the works of the program once the schools in AP reopen, on August 16," the leader added.
