Water To Be Released To Krishna Delta
Kiran Kumar Reddy directs officials to release of water to the Krishna delta, in view of the low levels of water in Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasam barrage.
Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Friday, directed officials of the Irrigation department to release water to the Krishna Delta - in West Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam and Krishna districts - immediately, so that farmers can raise seed beds.
The CM was reviewing the reservoir levels of the Krishna basin with Major Irrigation minister Sudhershan Reddy, principal secretaries of Irrigation S K Joshi, Ajoyendra Pyal and Aravinda Reddy, and other officials, at the Secretariat.
Kiran Kumar Reddy directed officials to coordinate the release of water by the Irrigation and Revenue departments in view of the low levels of water in Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasam barrage.
The CM also asked officials to ensure protection of seed beds till rain falls and levels in the reservoirs increase.
Meanwhile, officials of the Indian Meteorology Department said that rains are likely in the southern peninsula in the next few days.
The officials also said that waters for the Godavari and Vamshadhara deltas had already been released, and that levels are being monitored. Inflows have started into river Godavari, they added. (INN)
