With the movement for a United Andhra Pradesh (Samaikyandhra) moving to the villages now, things appear to be going from the frying pan and into the fire. And the worsening health of a multitude of fasting leaders and common citizens is catalysing the decline.
While Devineni Uma has been shifted to the NRI Hospital in Guntur amid much tension, Lagadapati’s health is turning worse in Vijayawada, too. And while Paritala Sunita and the other Anantapur MLAs on a fast to death got calls from their honcho Chandrababu Naidu expressing sympathy, the TDP bus tour had its leaders meet all rank and file fasting across the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.
The unsung ones in a worse condition, the students of Andhra University who have been on a fast for 10 days now, are on the verge of going comatose, report the doctors treating them. Their body parts can fail any moment, and their immunity is getting non-existent.
Relay fasts are catching on in Visakhapatnam, and Nellore’s all-party fast has entered its 6th day. And while Chintalapudi MLA Maddala Rajesh Kumar and Chittoor MLA C K Babu are the latest leaders to join the fasting bandwagon, several ordinary citizens are joining fasts with their leaders, demanding that Andhra Pradesh not be broken. The police are routinely arresting fasting leaders and citizens.
