The Telugu Desam Party has comfortably retained the Nandigama Assembly seat in the Krishna district in the by-elections whose results were announced on Tuesday.
TDP candidate T Sowmya secured 99,748 votes to win the elections, while her nearest rival Babu Rao of the Congress got 24,921 votes.
The other two candidates - Pullaiah and Pulla Rao - who were in the fray as independents got 921 and 647 votes respectively.
Sowmya is the daughter of T Prabhakar Rao, whose sudden death on June 15th due to cardiac arrest necessitated the by-election.
Although the TDP secured 21,000 more votes than in the general elections held in May this year, the Congress made an impressive comeback. In the general elections, the Congress candidate had secured only 2,008 votes, which rose to 24,921 this time. (INN)
