The impasse over the Telangana Bill continued to disrupt the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday, leading to its adjournment for the day without any business transacted.
As soon as the House met on Monday at 9am, YSR Congress Party and TDP legislators from the Seemandhra region trooped into the well, raising slogans in favour of a united Andhra Pradesh.
Speaker Nadendla Manohar also rejected the two adjournment motions moved by TDP and YSRC on the bifurcation issue, and asked the members to let the House take up the debate on the draft AP state Reorganisation Bill 2013. He said all their issues could be raised during the discussion on the Bill.
The Speaker also expressed dissatisfaction over the continuous disruption of proceedings. "We should now let the House run, as it has been repeatedly adjourned all these days," he said, adding that it had become increasingly difficult for the Chair to run the House.
Nadendla then adjourned the House and convened a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to break the deadlock. However, during the meeting, YSRCP MLAs insisted that the House first pass a resolution to keep the state united before initiating a discussion on the State Reorganisation Bill. The TDP MLAs reportedly sought more time from the Speaker to arrive at a common stand.
The uproar continued when the House re-assembled at about 1:47pm. The Speaker then announced that the proposed amendments for the State Reorganisation Bill be submitted by 1pm on January 10. Following the uproar, the Speaker then adjourned the House for the day at 1:50pm. (INN)
