Mohammed Pehalwaan, the prime accused in the
sensational shooting of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, has been arrested by the police at the Yashoda Hospital (Malakpet).
At the time of the arrest, Pehalwaan, who was a former Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) party worker, was present at the hospital to attend on a relative who had been admitted to the hospital in the aftermath of the cited shoot-out. The condition of the relative is reported to be critical. Earlier, Ibrahim, another relative of Pehalwaan, had died at the hospital.
Pehalwaan, in his defence, alleged that the MIM party was nothing short of the mafia, and held it responsible for beginning the assault. He further revealed that the incident was an outburst of the long-standing rivalry between the MIM and MBT party workers.
For those who came in late, MIM leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was on a padayatra, was stabbed and then fired at this morning in the Barkas area of the Old City.
