The top leaders of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on Wednesday directed the party's cadre not to indulge in any violence or protest on the streets over the arrest of the party's floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.
The directions were issued when a large number of workers and sympathisers, who gathered at the MIM's headquarters Darulsalaam, tried to spread out on roads in small groups shouting slogans against the state government.
However, MIM MLAs Ahmed Pasha Quadri and Ahmed Balala and GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain chased and drove back the workers to the party's headquarters. Later, Ahmed Pasha Quadri told the workers that MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi had directed everyone to observe restraint. "It is a legal battle, and we will fight it in courts and not on the streets," he said.
The MIM leaders asked the cadre not to indulge in any kind of violent protests over Akbar's arrest.
Earlier, Asaduddin Owaisi held a meeting with senior leaders to discuss the future course of action. He also briefed the leaders about the steps being taken with regard to the arrest of Akbaruddin Owaisi. (INN)
